The Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale
The constituent councils, committees, centers, and programs of The MacMillan Center have made tremendous contributions to our understanding of the world and have trained generations of citizens, leaders, and scholars. Interdisciplinary international studies, grounded in the humanities, social sciences, and language training have long been and will continue to be the foundation of The MacMillan Center's six undergraduate majors, four master's degree, and five graduate certificate programs. The Center currently organizes more than 500 events each year which inform diverse audiences within the Yale community and beyond, on a wide range of subjects. Many of the opportunities in the Giving Catalog will enable the Center to support and advance these programs.
While sustaining these historical strengths, The MacMillan Center is focusing its activities on the world's most pressing problems. These problems take on particular importance due to the tensions between the political organization of the world into nation-states and the increasingly global character of economics, conflict, information, and culture.
Our research initiatives focus on:
- Identity, Security, and Conflict
- Democracy: Past, Present, and Future, and
- Justice and Distribution: Local, National, Regional, Global
The MacMillan Center seeks funds to expand and sustain our faculty appointments in these areas and the interdisciplinary research projects they bring with them.
Many of the opportunities listed in the Giving Catalog may be tailored to address specific regions, countries, and international issues or initiatives.
