Dear Friends of the Yale University Library,

We live in the midst of an information revolution that is changing the world as profoundly as the introduction of printing at the end of the fifteenth century, or the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century. The university library of today is a dynamic organization, constantly adapting to new opportunities while preserving and revealing the legacy of the world’s knowledge from the earliest written records to those of the present day.

Yale University Library brings to the academic community not only the extraordinary riches of past learning, scholarship and invention, but also an unfathomable array of material in electronic form. We create the tools that enable scholars and students to navigate this ever-expanding universe, constructing new knowledge and insights from all that we make available to them. Our challenge is to preserve these priceless resources in perpetuity, to present them through our catalogs and the innovative services of our librarians so that readers may seek answers to questions as yet unimagined. The collected resources of this great library constitute an engine of discovery which we must transmit in good order to the future.

Please join me as we envision the future of Yale University Library.
